From the comfort of her own home while in self-quarantine, Gloria Estefan sent an important message about the novel coronavirus disease. With a touch of humor, the Cuban-American singer launched a new song called “Put On Your Mask,” to the beat of her 1989 hit “Get On Your Feet.”
“Put on your masks, when you go out in public / Put on your masks, help save the world from COVID,” she sang on the catchy chorus.
The two-minute song, which she worked on with her trusty sidekick Heather Beltran and sound engineer Juan Arreguin, brings to light the current global pandemic and the importance of following the safety guidelines. The idea was born from Estefan’s real doctor, who asked her to create something funny to encourage people into wearing masks when in public doing their essential duties.
A homemade music video shows Gloria dressed as a fake doctor and showing different creative ways to cover up.
“I wanted to contribute something that would put a bit of humor into a very serious situation because that’s what has helped me get through the toughest moments in my life,” she expressed in the Instagram post. “I hope I make you smile while imparting an important message! Stay healthy, my people…and to those suffering from this vile plague or those that have lost loved ones, you are in my prayers and thoughts continuously. We will get through this” she stated.
