Granger Smith’s 3-Year-Old Son’s Cause Of Death Confirmed

On Friday (June 7), a spokesperson for country singer Granger Smith confirmed to Billboard that the death of his three year-old son, River Kelly Smith, was the result of a "tragic drowning at home."

No further information on the accident was available at press time and a spokesperson for the Williamson County Sheriff's Department had not returned a request for additional comment on the case at press time.

Smith revealed the heartbreaking news on Thursday (June 6) that his son had passed away, explaining that the toddler's death was a result of a "tragic accident, and despite doctor's best efforts, he was unable to be revived."

The loss of the "Backroad Song" star's youngest was a shock to the system, with Smith saying that he and his wife, Amber Bartlett, had "made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life."

“Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father,” Smith wrote about River's passing.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the couple has requested that donations in River's name be directed to Dell Children's Medical Center.

Nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith. Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Granger and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, we cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this. . . In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.
