Band also announced new song ‘Oh Yeah!’ is due Jan. 16.
What's the best way for Green Day to gear up for their massive stadium Hella Mega Tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy this summer? Playing in your backyard, of course.
"Hey, looks like our new record’s coming out in like a month or something, so we’re just planning some stuff, some surprises,” singer Billie Armstrong said in an Instagram video on Tuesday.
“But one thing I was thinking is … does anybody have, like, a relatively big backyard that we can do, like, a backyard party somewhere? Maybe come play at your house, or your garage, backyard? Or do you have like a barn? Or is there a church or a church parking lot? … You know, I was conceived in a church parking lot.”
In other words, just the usual hijinks with Green Day. The only caveat? It has to be in California. At press time the band had not revealed how fans can sign up to have GD tear up the sod in their backyard, but when a fan suggested the on-trend Denny's as a potential location, Armstrong enthusiastically responded, "I would LOVE TO PLAY DENNYS!!!!!"
You might recall that Green Day ponied up $2,000 to a GoFundMe last month after punk band WACKO played one in Santa Ana, California, and were on the hook after fans moshed the place to bit, leaving the 17-year-old booker of the show on the hook for the damages.
Green Day's 13th studio album, Father of All Motherf—ers, is due out on Feb. 7. Meanwhile, another track is due out soon, as the band tweeted on Jan. 7: "Oh Yeah, "Oh Yeah!” comes out on 1/16."
