'Hairspray' Star Nikki Blonsky Comes Out as Gay, With Help From TikTok & Diana Ross

With Pride Month coming to an end on Tuesday (June 30), virtual celebrations around the world are officially wrapping up — but singer and actress Nikki Blonsky is giving herself one more thing to celebrate before the festivities are over.

On Sunday (June 28), Blonsky, who played the role of Tracy Turnblad in the 2004 film version of Hairspray, posted a video of herself on TikTok where she came out as a gay woman. The clip sees Blonsky lying down in her backyard, as Diana Ross’s “I’m Coming Out” blares in the background. She takes a moment, jumps to her feet, and starts dancing her heart out to celebrate the news.

“Hi, it’s Nikki Blonsky from the movie I’m Gay,” she wrote underneath the video, repurposing her unofficial catchphrase to let her fans know about the big news.
