Earlier this week, Harry Styles described how he’s been “stuck” in Los Angeles during the COVID-19 lockdown, unable to fly back to England to be with his family during the global pandemic. On Friday (April 3), he passed the time by dialing in to SiriusXM’s Hits 1 to give an update on the eagerly anticipated video for “Watermelon Sugar” and share his self-quarantine routine with hosts Nicole Ryan, Ryan Sampson and Stanley T.
Oh, and they asked him if now would be the right time to fire up that One Direction reunion performance, but with Zoom to keep that social distance. “I don’t know if that’s the reunion that we’ve had in mind,” he said haltingly. “I don’t know if that’s how… if that would be the way to do it, but, yeah, I’ll have a quick whip round.”
Sounds like a hard no. But Harry did have a soft yes on another important topic. After Styles was spotted filming the “Watermelon Sugar” video earlier this year, fans were left wondering when they would finally see the visual for the track from his Fine Line album. “I think in… I’m not sure exactly, but not, not too long,” he said, before adding, “a few more weeks, a couple months, maybe.”
He said the clip has just been finished and he’s excited to get it out, thankful that it was filmed before the novel coronavirus turned the world upside down. “It would be a little different if we filmed it now]. I was with a lot of people in the video, so if it kind of switched now second half it’s just me inside,” he said. “It would be a very different video from what it is now, that’s for sure.”
And, as he mentioned in his interview earlier this week, his L.A. lockdown consists mostly of long walks, reading, writing new songs, playing instruments and movies, lots and lots of movies. Locked in with people who have “real jobs” and have to work all day, while he doesn’t at the moment, Styles said they all get together at night to watch movies. Asked to list a few recent favorite flicks, Harry said, “we’ve watched pretty much everything that has ever been made at this point. Every movie ever.”
