The story appears to involve Harry’s literal million-watt smile.
If you've ever seen Harry Styles live you know his megawatt smile can light up a room. But in the new video teaser for the first official single from his upcoming sophomore album, Fine Line (Dec. 13), "Adore You," Harry literally has a million-watt beam so strong he can shred umbrellas and blind people.
The revelation comes in a high-concept two-minute clip that dropped on Monday (Dec. 2) in an elaborate sneak peek at the Dave Meyers-directed video for the track, which will premiere on Friday (Dec. 6).
The story unfolds on the mysterious island of Eroda ("Adore" spelled backwards), which Stylers are already well familiar with after a sneaky online treasure hunt sent a number of them down a digital rabbit hole over the past few weeks as they tried to piece together the tantilizing clues about the fictional island.
The lush, picturesque paradise looks amazing, but before you book your flight it's worth noting that Eroda doesn't exist and is clearly part of an elaborate stealth marketing campaign for the album. Plus, everyone there is apparently always frowning (it's called "resting fish face.") The perpetually cloudy destination just off the coast of England is the kind of place where whistling in the wind might get you blown out into the sea, where fishermen wear a gold earring for good luck and leaving on odd numbered days could be deadly.
But one day, a boy with a peculiar kind of magic — expressed though a blindingly bright smile — was born, but his light so terrified people that he grew despondent and withdrew from society. Alone, depressed and feeling like an outcast, the young man meets a fish who feels the same way. The rest is, apparently, to be revealed when the video drops on Friday.
"Adore You" follows "Lights Up" and "Watermelon Sugar" as the first tastes of the 12-track album, which will be promoted on a world tour that kicks off on Apr. 15 in Birmingham, England and crosses Europe before landing in North America on June 26 in Philadelphia.
