Hit-Boy Finally Free From 18 Year Long Publishing Deal; Releases First Independent Song ‘What’s The Deal?’: Watch

Hit-Boy has often spoken about his situation of having signed somewhat of a strong-armed deal in terms of music publishing.

For those unacquainted with the matter, we are referring to a deal that nearly spanned two decades with Universal Publishing — a deal he signed when he was only 19 years old. Just last year, Hit-Boy spoke to Vibe magazine about the nature of his contract, and the assistance he received from Jay-Z on the matter.

In the interview, Hit-Boy expressed his gratitude to Jay by saying, “I just now, thanks to Desiree [Perez] and JAY-Z and people like that, really got me to a place I’m in now, where I have an end date. Before, my whole career I was working without having an actual end date to— the way we really get our money is through publishing, you know what I mean?” Now, Hit-Boy has clearly made it to the end date, and is free of his contractual obligations.

In celebration of this, the artist has released a brand new single along with a video, titled ‘What’s The Deal?’ Not only is Hit-Boy the maestro behind the track’s production, he has also decided to deliver sizzling verses over his own beat. The track is a true testament to Hit-Boy’s newfound freedom.
