Iggy Azalea Says She Wants People to ‘Just Act a Fool and Have a Good Time’ When Listening to ‘F–k It Up’

Iggy Azalea recently stopped by the Billboard office to share the story of how her track “F*ck It Up” came together with J White, Jazze Pha, and Kash Doll, as part of the “How It Went Down” video series.

Azalea tells Billboard that it all started in a studio in Atlanta with producers J White and Jazze Pha. The three of them were together eating food and having a good time, when Pha started singing “F*ck It Up.”

“We made a million crazy, just silly hooks, and that one really stuck to me,” Azalea remembers. “I thought it was really fun.”

As for how Kash Doll got involved, Azalea recalls that when she first went independent, Kash Doll reached out to congratulate her and was one of the only people who supported her. “Everybody was hating on me that day, trying to say that my life was over when I was really excited about it,” says Azalea.

Once Azalea decided that she wanted to have a girl feature on the track, she knew that she wanted to ask Kash Doll, explaining, “To me, she's so underrated, and she always kills it.”

Azalea admits that she was initially concerned as to whether or not Kash Doll would be interested in doing something that had a “comedic undertone,” since her music is more serious than Azalea’s “tongue-in-cheek” music is. However, Kash Doll was completely on board when asked to appear in the Romy and Michele's High School Reunion-themed video.

“I knew there was a reason why we had a solid connection,” notes Azalea. “And she was totally down to dress up and do whatever I wanted. She was the best sport, as well…Kash was just so down to have a ball, so it made it really fun.”

When asked what she hopes people take away from the song, Azalea replies that she wants listeners to feel hyped up with their friends.

“I feel like music is always a thing that hypes me up, or makes me feel like I get extra confident when I hear a song come on that I like or that I wanna sing,” she states.

“I hope it's that song that makes you feel like if you don't have your own hype squad, or you don't have your friends with you, I hope you could put this song on, and feel like me and Kash are your friends and we're hyping you up to just act a fool and have a good time and forget about feeling silly or what you look like, and just be crazy and enjoy yourself.”
