It’s been three years since rapper iLoveMakonnen released an album. With the burgeoning star reclaiming his time in the spotlight with the success of his Lil Peep & Fall Out Boy collaboration “I’ve Been Waiting,” fans have been asking when Makonnen would release a new album. Today (May 10), fans finally got their answer.
On Friday, iLoveMakonnen announced that his new EP, simply titled M3, would arrive on June 21. Along with the big news, the rapper also gave fans a taste of his EP with “Drunk on Saturday,” a vibing club jam where Makonnen raps about his late night exploits in a strip club, all while lamenting his lost love. “Now I'm drunk on Saturday/ Still lonely feeling sad I didn't love/ You like I should,” he raps.
Makonnen celebrated the release of his new song with fans on Twitter, thanking them for liking the song, and asking them what they thought about the sound. “Does Drunk on Saturday remind u of OG Makonnen?” he asked in one tweet.
The release date and new single follow the massive success of “I’ve Been Waiting,” which has spent 8 weeks on the Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 62. “It feels good to know that his music is still living on, and his legacy is still going, that he’s still bringing joy some healing to the fans with the music,” he told Billboard of his friend and collaborator, Lil Peep.
