Taylor Swift recognizes the power of a killer tribute. The singer spotted a gorgeous cover of her Lover song "False God" that popped up in singer/songwriter James Bay's Instagram story, so she grabbed it and re-storied it.
In the 45-second clip, Bay fingerpicks his guitar and sings the song's soaring chorus in a sweet falsetto while seated along in a room. "This is STUNNING," Swift gushed. "THE TALENT."
It's not the first time Bay has uncorked a unique cover. Last month he recorded a version of the Shirelles' girl group classic "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" as part of an Amazon Original session. “Carole King’s Tapestry is one of my biggest influences as a songwriter,” Bay said of the tune. “The whole album is a masterclass in great, timeless songwriting. ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ has always had a particularly strong effect on me. From the famous Shirelles rendition to a favourite and more recent Amy Winehouse version, to Carole King’s own great recording; the earnest, intimate lyrics and beautiful melody never fails to move and inspire me.”
