Mandopop star Jay Chou released the music video for his latest single “Mojito” on Thursday (June 11).
Filmed on location in Havana, Cuba, the clip finds the Chinese superstar flanked by a pair of back-up dancers in brightly-colored tie-dye looks while he compares the city’s offerings to his latest flame.
“Trouble, give my lover a Mojito/ I like to read her eyes/ And my coffee doesn’t need too much sugar/ This world is already too sweet because of her/ There is no cigar as rich as her smile/ Don’t waste your time introducing it/ Graffiti in the arcade, graffiti of the old city/ All the colors are because she is speechless,” he sings in the opening verse over Latin-inflected horns, percussion and guitar. (English translation provided by Google Translate.)
The track follows “Won’t Cry,” Chou’s 2019 collaboration with singer Ashin of Taiwanese pop-rock group Mayday, as well as his 2019 live album The Invincible Concert Tour. While the Taiwanese singer’s fourteenth studio set, Jay Chou’s Bedtime Stories, was released in 2016, he’s since kept busy as the star of Neflix’s Chinese-language travel show J-Style Trip. (To American audiences, Chou is perhaps best known for his starring role as Kato alongside Seth Rogen in the 2011 vigilante comedy The Green Hornet.)
