Jay-Z fans are in for a treat. After The-Dream previewed an unreleased version of Hov’s “Holy Grail” during his songwriters battle with Sean Garrett Saturday night (March 28), Tidal unleashed the demo of the song’s reference track, which features him singing the hook previously handled by Justin Timberlake.
“Jay’s probably gonna kill me for playing this,” quipped The-Dream during his head-to-head match-up. Fans quickly drooled over the short-lived preview, before Tidal unveiled the full version Sunday (March 29).
“Holy Grail” resides on Jay’s 2013 album Magna Carta Holy Grail and rocketed to No. 4 on the Hot 100.
The duel between The-Dream and Sean Garrett showcased both stars flexing their songwriting prowess and extensive catalogs. The-Dream played Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” while Garrett countered with Usher’s “Yeah”, Chris Brown’s “Wall to Wall” and Beyonce’s “Upgrade U.”
