Almost 25 years after her tragic death on March 31, 1995, Selena Quintanilla’s legacy continues to shine on the charts, on social media, on street murals, in clothing lines and makeup brands, as an example of a true Latin icon in pop culture.
She was known as the Queen of Tejano, but was not afraid to dip her toes in other genres, single-handedly revolutionizing the Tejano industry and incorporating her Mexican-American background in music. Her music, including timeless hits such as “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and “Como La Flor,” continues to be a bridge that connects people of all ages, races and cultures together.
She ultimately also paved the way for a new generation of Latina singers, including Camila Cabello, Leslie Grace and Angela Aguilar, who recently released her Baila Esta Cumbia EP in homage to the late Tex-Mex star.
Each of these artists, among many more, has expressed her love and admiration for Selena by covering some of her biggest hits.
