Jorge Drexler is dealing with the anxiety that has taken over the world as a result of the coronavirus pandemic with music.
With guitar in hand, the Uruguayan singer-songwriter took to social media to sing his new, soothing song titled “Codo Con Codo (Elbow to Elbow),” in which he explores all the other ways one can say hello without touching.
“I woke up in San José, Costa Rica, with the feeling that we would have to postpone the concerts,” Drexler wrote earlier this week. “In times of distress, I confront them by writing and playing my guitar. Trying to understand how we will show affection to another person, without shaking their hand, so that the virus doesn’t win.”
“The hugs will come back, the slow kisses. If you run into a friend, say hello to them with your soul. Smile, throw them a kiss from afar,” Drexler sings. “Paranoia and fear are not and will not be the way. We will come out of this together, elbow to elbow.”
On Thursday, Drexler, like a number of other Latin artists, postponed concerts worldwide. “This decision comes during uncertainty, we are taking everything very seriously including the health of the artists, fans, staff and the community,” his team said in a press release announcing that Drexler was postponing his tour in the U.S.
