Junior H Debuts in Top Latin Albums Chart Top 5

He becomes the first corridos tumbados act to score a top five debut in 2020.

Junior H clocks his first entry on the Top Latin Albums chart (dated April 11), as his sophomore EP Atrapado En Un Sueño arrives at No. 5.

Atrapado marks the Guanajuato-bred singer-songwriter’s first entry on any Billboard album chart. Junior H secured his first entry on a Billboard chart through his featured role on compatriot Natanael Cano’s “Ella” in November (the No. 4-peaking title on the Regional Mexican Digital Song Sales chart currently stands at No. 43 on Hot Latin Songs). Junior H’s first EP, Mi Vida En Un Cigarro, was released on May 31, 2019, but missed the charts.

“I’m grateful to three people: God, my parents and founder and CEO of urban regional Mexican label Rancho Humilde] Jimmy Humilde,” Junior H tells Billboard. “I grew up with many hopes, the first one to sing, to step on a stage and becoming a star. I have learned that things must be done with a heart, and today I can say that I put my album on Billboard, that I am moving forward and that soon I will be onstage.”

Atrapado, released March 27 Z Records/Rancho Humilde, bows with a little over 4,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending April 2, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, with the bulk of the sum coming from streaming activity; the set’s songs earned 6.3 million on-demand streams.

Top Latin Albums ranks the most popular Latin albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

At 18 years and 11 months old, Junior H becomes yet another youthful member of the Rancho Humilde family of acts to score a top five debut on Top Latin Albums. (Junior H turns 19 on April 23.) He follows Cano, who was 18 years and seven months old when his Corridos Tumbados debuted at No. 5 on the Nov. 16, 2019-dated chart. (Cano was born on March 27, 2001.)

While Atrapado is just the second regional Mexican set to debut in the top five of Top Latin Albums in 2020, Junior H takes the lead among his genre, being the first corridos tumbados act to secure a top five debut. Alejandro Fernandez’s Hecho En México arrived at No. 1 on the Feb. 29-dated list.

“I want to thank my parents and Jimmy, who has become my mentor, my manager, my brother and partner,” Junior H adds.

Concurrently, Atrapado opens at No. 2 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, Junior H ‘s first chart entry and top five.
