Junya Watanabe MAN and Reigning Champ go back to 2020, when they first linked to create reimagined version of Reigning Champ’s signature Midweight Terry Full Zip Hoodie. With collabs in 2021 and 2022 as well, it’s only right that they return for the fourth year in a row, dropping a quartet of ready-to-wear pieces that pay tribute to legendary pop artists Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring.
For the Spring/Summer 2023 capsule, Watanabe, as he’s done in prior Reigning Champ collabs, focuses on putting his own spin on classic Reigning Champ staples. The designer’s team went to work once again on RC’s signature Midweight Terry material, this time to produce a hoodie, t-shirt, and pair of sweatpants.
The Junya Watanabe Sweatpant highlight the screen-printed Roy Lichtenstein graphic along the left leg. The lively Lichtenstein face circles around to the backside of the pants, so outfit admirers can see it from any angle. The Hybrid Sweatpants include a hard-to-miss ‘eYe,†along the right leg – Watanabe’s trademarked collaboration emblem. A subtle screen-printed camouflague patch adorns the back left pocket. The Hybrid Hoodie features camouflague ripstop elbow patches and contrast flatlocking at the side seams, as well as the ‘eYe’ logo on the upper left side, while the collection’s T-shirt is stylized similarly.
Prices range from $260 USD to $620 USD, and are available now to shop on Reigning Champ’s website.
