R&B singer K. Michelle recently took to Instagram to update her fans on her booty chronicles. K. Michelle, also known as Kimberly, surprised her fans back in 2015 when she first announced her intentions for butt reduction surgery after expressing her discontent with her augmentations. UK Hip HopTalk previously reported on the reveal that took place in an interview with B. Scott in 2015:
When K. Michelle was coming up, she thought that her beauty would really be enhanced if she pumped up her booty. She opted to get fat injections in her already ample hips and buttock named “Betsy,” giving her an extreme shape. She strongly stated, “That’s the shape that I wanted.” K. Michelle grew up and ventured out into the real world of business, and she realized that her big Betsy was holding her back. In 2015, she shocked her fans when she said that she would be getting a butt reduction. She said:
For me, I want my normal shape back. I don’t need to have a man looking down at my a*s when I’m trying to talk numbers. I don’t need to not be able to get the role. Like, I wanna be in Jurassic Park! Let me be in Jurassic Park! I don’t need to not be able to run through Jurassic Park because my a*s is too heavy. Before the dinosaurs come to eat me, I need to be able to go!
Time for a New Booty
On a more serious note, she said, “I have like movies and different things [I’m working on], and I was having a real conversation with Tyrese — we’re really like great friends. I was telling him about my butt, how I hate being typecast because my bottom is so heavy.”
She also talked about how limiting her bottom was for clothing options. “I can’t wear designer clothes. It’s always a problem when it comes to designers and like when they have to get stuff to fit my body. I think the older you get you get tired of having to hop into your jeans!”
She showed off her new, slimmer derriere on Instagram after her first round of reduction, saying, “Betsy is smaller, but she still makes a statement. Sometimes less is more. Not finished yet, but feeling liberated getting back to myself.”
In the same interview, K. Michelle had some words for young women considering getting butt implants. She warned them, “I would say if you have the coins put it in, have the coins to take it out. It might be a phase. I would tell them don’t go and do what you see people doing. But if that’s what you want to do, if that’s the body you want, go get the body you want.”
Is it lupus?!

A couple years after she made this announcement, K. Michelle took to Twitter to inform her followers of her plans to have twins, but also to announce a health scare that she had recently had. HHMW previously reported on this story:
K. Michelle took to Twitter to tell her fans about her news, saying, “Hey milfs how are you tonight? Can we talk? I’m giving you guys an album and handing in my last album all at the same time! Took a break from business now. I have a new store opening up, so it can’t be anything but greatness. A bit stressed.”
She continued, “So my docs told me I had lupus. I was devastated for two weeks. Then the fertility doctor told me that I couldn’t carry twins full terms. But my body was tired, my mind was just beat down. My results from the doctor came again as dormant or negative. So I feel to my knees to praise. I still have to pay close attention to my blood work every three months for safety. But just when I thought that was over. I get another call…
“Then a call from my obgyno saying that if I have twins they would not be full term because of my size and health. Literally I was so broken I kept beating myself up like. Your being punished by God because you had that abortion. Man talk about a broken spirit. Two weeks of what felt like my world was crumbling.”
Just when it looked like she wouldn’t be able to have her kids because of her medical condition, something amazing happened. She said, “Today we got a call that THEY REALLY FOUND THE PERFECT SURROGATE for us. My hands were shaking. Still feelin’ punished for what I had done in the past. I had to find the positive because I don’t believe God would leave me out there like that. I had to talk to myself. Things don’t always go as you feel they should but they go and you better go with it.”
It’s easy to see why she’s willing to give it all up for these little babies and so that she can take care of herself. She concluded, “I’m about to watch the most beautiful process and that’s bringing two HEALTHY little girls in the world. That’s all that matter to me. God works. I wanna get this album out so I can really go teach and heal from these intimate seminars I’m doing, And raise my son, and these little ones. Oh my god it’s scary.”’

K. Michelle would later find out that what doctors thought was lupus was actually her body responding negatively to the implants on her hips and butt, adding to the issues that she already had with the augmentations. Back in April, K. Michelle shared an intimate experience with her followers over Instagram after one of her initial blood transfusions that left her emotionally distraught. Check out the video above. HHMW covered this story, too:
The singer, who turned 34 this past March, has made it a point to be as open and honest as possible about her experience with implants. She stressed the importance of talking about “the outcome and the consequences” of the popular procedure on Steve Harvey’s talk show earlier this year.
“Everybody was doing it. A lot of your favorite artists,” she told the audience. “We went to the same person. They’re sick too, but I just talk about mine. I don’t lie to y’all. I don’t tell y’all, ‘Oh, this is great!’”
K. Michelle — also known as Kimberly — got her implants removed at the beginning of the 2018, but fans got to relive it with her, as the procedure aired on Dr. Oz’s show Tuesday, Feb. 27. After the implants began causing her pain and other health issues, Kimberly decided that they had to go.
“I didn’t start to feel any pain or have any issues until like a year ago and my health just started to decline,” the star told Dr. Oz. “I had seen some stories of a lot of women who were going through the same thing and it was like discoloration, it was pain in your back, it was migraines, it was super discomfort.”
“It’s like you always have this intuition when you know you might want to ignore it but I couldn’t ignore it anymore, and it just wasn’t worth it to me,” she added.
