Kalsey Kulyk’s vulnerable vocals are on display throughout her new single, the emotional ballad “Roll With It.” Kulyk sings about a broken relationship in the tune she wrote herself, chronicling a couple who stay together because it’s all they know.
The singer-songwriter’s slowed vocals instantly draw the listener in while delicate percussion accompaniment further exemplifies the tune's heartbreak.
"Most times, when I sit down to write, I usually feel I have control over the situation,” Kulyk tells Billboard. “But with 'Roll With It,' it was different — it fell right out onto the paper. I don’t think I was aware of how honest I was being with myself at the time. When I sang it out at writers’ rounds, people loved it, so I knew I had to record it. No matter how vulnerable it made me feel. If I can connect with anyone and let them know that they’re not alone in that feeling, then I've done my job as a writer and artist."
Kulyk says when she learned her director’s idea for the video, it was exactly how she pictured the song coming to life. “This song is so honest and vulnerable that I knew it was going to portray the song in the only way I saw it… A broken love – one you stay in because it's all you know," she says.
