But, you know, it got scrubbed.
There were a lot of bummed-out people on Wednesday (May 28) when the historic SpaceX launch at Cape Canaveral was scrubbed at the last minute due to uncooperative weather. The capsule that was slated to take off from its Florida launch pad carrying two NASA astronauts would have been the first crewed space flight to launch from U.S. soil in nearly a decade since the mothballing of the space shuttle fleet in 2011.
Spaceheads across the country were disappointed when rain and potential storms in the area led to the postponement of the launch, perhaps none more than Katy Perry, who got all dressed up in her finest maternity space suit for the event.
“Welp. Today’s #SpaceLaunchLive was BUMPED due to weather, but what’s two days when @spacex has been waiting for 18 years… Let’s pray it’s in the cards for Saturday!” Perry wrote alongside a trio of Instagram selfies in which she modeled a flowing, shiny silver mom-to-be muumuu.
Perry was not deterred, reminding fans to come back at 3:22 p.m. ET on Saturday (May 30), where she’ll be on-hand to pregame on Discovery and the Science Channel.
Earlier in the day, Perry supported the launch by appearing on Wednesday’s Space Launch Live: America Returns to Space star-studded broadcast. She tuned in while sitting on a glittery crescent moon with a star-studded background while watching the live broadcast of the attempted Crew Dragon Demo-2 astronaut launch, which featured American astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley on a 1967 vintage television set.
“We just wanted to pay homage to the ’60s and all the incredible space travel that happened then, landing on the moon,” she said in reference to the Apollo 11 spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. The mom-to-be also wondered how SpaceX boss Elon Musk was getting any sleep the night before on account of his newborn baby with Grimes.
