Katy Perry Talks Learning How to Be a Mom During Quarantine

There is no better way for a first-time mom-to-be to get a crash course in motherhood than to be locked down during a pandemic with your fiancé’s kid. At least that’s what Katy Perry is learning during the COVID-19 quarantine, which she has spent with beloved Orlando Bloom and his son with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, Flynn.

Dialing in to The Graham Norton Show on Friday (May 22), Perry talked about revealing the news of her pregnancy the “Never Worn White” video in March, at which point Norton played her a series of clips in which fans freak out about the news. “I thought, ‘What better way to reveal big news in my life to my fans who have grown up with me than music?'” Perry said. She was also surprised by comedian Alan Carr, who cheekily suggested she consider “Alan-is” for a girl name.

She said she’s been learning “to be a mum fast” in lockdown, though it’s definitely been an adjustment. “Kids gravitate towards me through my music, so I am used to them, but I am not used to being woken up really early in the morning by them staring at me from the side of my bed!” she said.
