Lady Gaga sprinkled some Willy Wonka-style dust on her Little Monsters on Thursday (May 28) with the surprise release of her Blackpink collab, “Sour Candy.” The mouth-puckeringly sweet dance pop confection co-produced by BURNS and frequent collaborator BloodPop is a 2:38 bi-lingual bop that finds Gaga trading off verses with the South Korean girl group’s members as they spin a tale of enticing love that requires some genuine, hard-to-crack effort.
“I might be messed up, but I know that’s love/ You want a real taste, at least I’m not fake/ Come, come unwrap me,” Gaga deadpans over a bouncy house beat following the teasing chorus from Blackpink’s Jennie and Lisa, “I’m sour candy, so sweet then I get a little angry, yeah/ Sour candy, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah/ I’m super psycho, make you crazy when I turn the light’s low.”
“Sour Candy” is the third track from Gaga’s upcoming sixth studio album, Chromatica (May 29), following on the heels of the Ariana Grande collab “Rain on Me” and first single, “Stupid Love.” The album will also feature a duet with one of Gaga’s longtime heroes and friend, Elton John on “Sine From Above.” The singer is so excited about the release that she tweeted out a picture on Wednesday in which she trundled into a Chromatica-themed truck to personally deliver copies of the album to retailers all around the world.
