It seems like the world is at a standstill with tours, concerts and sporting events canceled or postponed worldwide due to the coronavirus outbreak.
On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic, with almost 125,000 cases reported across 118 countries.
Billboard Latin has compiled an ongoing list of Latin artists who are postponing concerts and tours due to the outbreak.
March 12 – The latest Latin artist to cancel a show is Aventura, who took to social media to inform their fans in Miami about the postponement of their show Thursday night (March 12).” After the recent announcement from the Miami mayor, Aventura’s sold-out concert tonight at American Airlines has been postponed,” frontman Romeo Santos posted on his social media. “Thank you for understanding, we will be working to secure a new date. Tickets will be honored for the new date.” Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez declared a state of emergency Wednesday night and would use his authority to cancel large events. In the caption, Santos wrote: “Please, take all precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the virus.”
Up-and-coming artists Sech and Dalex have also postponed their upcoming concerts in Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles.
Additionally, Spanish Broadcasting System has postponed all concerts and special events in Puerto Rico. According to Sixto Pabón, vice president of operations at SBS Puerto Rico, “we continue to strengthen our strategies and we are cooperating with all the information necessary to mitigate the effects that these situations can have.”
Maluma postponed his 11:11 World Tour in Europe due to the coronavirus. The Colombian singer posted on Instagram, “Attention. The #1111 Europe Tour has been postponed. I will update you with information regarding the new dates as soon as possible. See you soon.”
In Argentina, a number of Latin artists such as Cazzu, Chayanne and Karol G have postponed shows due to coronavirus in the city of Buenos Aires. Karol G was scheduled to perform at Luna Park Stadium March 13, Cazzu at Luna Park on March 14 and Chayanne at Movistar Arena March 21. And Soda Estéreo at Campo Argentino de Polo March 21-22. The head of the Buenos Aires city Government, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, and the Minister of Health of the City, Fernán Quirós, announced during a press conference the cancellation of the massive shows to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Starting today (March 12), all massive shows to be held in the City of Buenos Aires are suspended.
Menudo has also canceled the Súbete a mi Moto tour stop in Miami. The show was scheduled to take place March 14 and a new date will be announced soon. “Our health is first. It is important that we follow instructions given to us to prevent the spread … We love you.”
March 10 – BMI postponed their Latin Awards scheduled to take place March 31 in Los Angeles over health and safety concerns. According to a press release issued by BMI: “We plan to reschedule the Latin Awards at a later date and look forward to honoring Wisin y Yandel with our President’s Award and celebrating our talented family of Latin music creators. BMI will continue to evaluate all upcoming events on a case-by-case basis.”
March 9 – Marc Anthony and Henry Cardenas’ Maestro Cares Gala postponed over the spread of the virus. A statement from Maestro Cares reads, “After careful deliberation, given the risks posed by Coronavirus, along with the recently declared state of emergency by State of New York, we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to postpone our upcoming Maestro Cares Foundation Gala. Our primary focus is the health and safety of our guests, honorees, partners, community and team. We are looking to reschedule, and are working on potential dates. We will circle back with you as soon as we have further information.”
