Lauv chatted with Apple Music’s Brooke Reese on Monday (April 27) about his debut album ~how i’m feeling~ and the artists he tapped to accompany him on his personal journey, from Alessia Cara to BTS.
During their FaceTime conversation, he discussed moving away from “hooks, romantic, all about one relationship” type ballads from his first compilation album/playlist I met you when I was 18. (the playlist) and recording a project “that covers so many different parts of my life.”
But when it came to working with other singers on his first LP, he didn’t expect any at all. “I went into this album expecting no features and then they just all happened in a very natural way. I just met BTS at their show and they asked me to do the remix for their song and I was like, ‘Duh,'” the 25-year-old singer said about the conception of their “Make It Right” remix, which was originally featured on the Korean boy band’s Billboard 200-topping project Map of the Soul: Persona last spring. “Then I was like, ‘Oh maybe they’ll like one of the songs from my album.’ So I sent them ‘Who,’ the demo, and they loved it.”
Lauv continued about his star-studded song list: “Alessia, we decided to do the collab over FaceTime. Troye Sivan], we just like met and vibed from the studio and the song happened, like everyone was just sort of like, it happened along the way in a super natural way.”
