Lil Nas X Announces ‘Montero’ Release Date

Lil Nas X has put a date on it.

The rapper has announced that his debut album Montero will arrive Friday, Sept. 17. Taking to Twitter, he shared a trailer, where he reports on his prison escape and refers to himself as a “talentless homosexual.” The 90-second clip also features a brand new song called “That’s What I Want.”

“I want someone to love me / I need someone who needs me,” he sings. “‘Cause it don’t feel right whеn it’s late at night / And it’s just me and my dreams.”

Montero has already spawned a trio of singles including “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow, “Sun Goes Down,” and “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Nas plans to share more of his truth on the 15-track album. “Creating this album has been therapy for me,” he said in a statement. “I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own.”

Five days before the album’s release, Nas will perform at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. He was also recently named Chief Impact Officer at Taco Bell, his former employer, where he will appear in promo spots and collaborate on future brand experiences.
