Lil Nas X Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction on ‘SNL’

Lil Nas X suffered a wardrobe malfunction while making his “Saturday Night Live” debut.

The rapper was the musical guest on the Season 46 finale last night (May 22), where he performed a pair of singles off his upcoming debut album.

During the first performance of his chart-topping hit “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” a shirtless Nas was joined by his male dancers as he recreated the controversial video. Towards the latter part of the hell-themed performance, his flame-patterned leather pants ripped as he was performing his pole routine. Nas appeared shocked as he grabbed his crotch to hide the tear for the remainder of his set.

But despite his reputation for trolling, Nas insists it was not planned. “i know i do a lot of planned shit but ripping my pants on live television is not one of them,” he tweeted.

He also explained the last-minute drama surrounding his performance. “at first i was afraid to even perform,” he tweeted. “then we rehearsed for 2 weeks, then all of the dancers got removed because one had covid and new ones had to learn the routine in 24 hours, and then i ended up ripping my pants and couldn’t finish. everything happens for a reason tho lol.”

He returned later in the show for a malfunction-free performance of his vulnerable new single “Sun Goes Down,” and also appeared in a “Pride Month Song” skit alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, Kate McKinnon, Bowen Yang, and Punkie Johnson.

After the eventful evening, Nas took to Twitter to reflect. “thank u snl for my favorite night of my career!! i love u!” he wrote.
