Following its live debut on the Grammy Awards, Demi Lovato has unveiled the studio version of her heart-wrenching new song and first release in a year and a half, “Anyone.” The song hit streaming services on Sunday (Jan. 26).
The song, which Lovato recently revealed was written days prior to her drug overdose in July 2018, details a feeling of helplessness as she addresses her deepest vulnerabilities. “I tried to talk to my piano, I tried to talk to my guitar / Talked to my imagination / Confided into alcohol,” she begins, before demands in the chorus, “Lord, is there anyone? / I need someone.”
At the Grammys, Lovato took the stage and needed to re-start her performance seconds into singing, choking up before a single tear streaked down her right cheek. When the piano ballad was complete, much of the Staples Center rose to its feet to support the pop star.
