On Sunday (April 5), the Academy of Country Music Awards were supposed to take place in Las Vegas. But due to the coronavirus, the celebratory event has been pushed to Sept 16. In its place, CBS aired a special at-home concert, ACM Presents: Our Country, hosted by Gayle King.
The two-hour long event included performances from country music’s biggest stars, including Little Big Town. Following an introduction from band member Jimi Westbrook, who was sitting on a set of stairs in his home, the screen split four ways to show members Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman and Phillip Sweet.
By the time the group dove into four-part harmonies for its performance of “Next To You,” off its latest album Nightfall, Westbrook had seemingly moved to another room, allowing his wife, Fairchild, to occupy the staircase. That’s the thing about performing at home, you make do in the space you have.
