Little Mix ushered in the start of a new era with the release of “Break Up Song” on Friday (March 27).
On the ’80s-inspired anthem, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thrilwall and Perrie Edwards celebrate their independence after ditching the deadbeat men in their lives.
“So tonight I’ll sing another/ Another break up song/ So turn it up, let it play/ On and on and on and on/ For all the times they screwed us over/ Let it play on and on and on/ Just another break up song,” the foursome sing over danceable pop production on the track’s pulsating chorus.
Co-written by Pinnock, Thirlwall and Edwards, “Break Up Song” is the veteran girl group’s first release since 2019’s “Bounce Back” and their recent holiday single “One I’ve Been Missing.”
The new track serves as the lead single for the follow-up to their 2018 studio set LM5, which included the Nicki Minaj-assisted “Woman Like Me,” “Think About Us” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and the group’s EDM-fueled collab with Cheat Codes, “Only You.”
The girls are currently in the midst of paying forward their reality TV show roots by serving as mentors on their new singing competition show for BBC One, Little Mix The Search, and plan to hit the road this summer for a run of dates at stadiums across the U.K.
