Prior to "Truth Hurts" topping the Billboard Hot 100, the tidal wave of a track infiltrated Sunday's (Sept. 1) Battle of the Bands between eight HBCUs competing at Houston's NRG Stadium. Tennessee State's marching band got the Lizzo co-sign after incorporating "Truth Hurts" into their routine.
"THEY HIT THE TRUTH HURTS FLUTE TRILL N TWERK," Lizzo excitedly wrote to Twitter. The clip finds the flute contingent of the marching band coming to the front and twerking with the "Truth Hurts" instrumental thundering behind them. Fans can vote on the winner of the Battle of the Bands here.
The Detroit native made history on Tuesday (Sept. 3) when she became the sixth female rapper to ever top the Hot 100, as "Truth Hurts" climbed the mountain to move up from No. 3 to No. 1 in its 17th week on the elusive chart. "WE DID IT LIZZBIANS," she reacted to the news.
