The band's co-founder died last week at age 61.
Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval paid tribute to her late bandmate David Roback on Tuesday (March 3) in an emotional post representing her first statement since the guitarist/songwriter’s passing on Feb. 24 at age 61. “It’s been a few days since I lost my dear friend and I am devastated,” Sandoval wrote. “Thank you all for the love.”
The post also included a loving poem, featuring the line, “What will we do now?/ Now that you leave me here/ Even though the dark blue sky is still radiant and filled with the comforting sadness that holds us together.” Roback’s death was accompanied by an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians, with everyone from Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis, to the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy and Sleigh Bells paying homage to the co-writer of such indelible indie hits as “Fade Into You” and “Into Dust.”
