Today’s biggest stars were scheduled to attend the annual Met Gala today (May 4), but unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has been postponed.
However, Vogue announced that it will still be celebrating its prestigious “First Monday in May” virtually. A Moment With the Met will go live from Vogue‘s YouTube channel at 6 p.m. EST. The show will feature an address by editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, a performance by Florence + the Machine and a DJ set from fashion designer Virgil Abloh.
Additionally, throughout the day, Vogue will look back at highlights from previous years, from the most buzzed-about red carpet ensembles to memorable moments.
“It would be impossible to recreate the gala on Monday evening, though I have loved hearing how so many are marking the occasion in their own ways,” Wintour said in a statement on Vogue‘s website. “So instead, I asked a few friends to join me for a simple moment—one that I hope will bring us all a bit of joy.”
Vogue will also make a donation to both the Costume Institute and A Common Thread, and ask viewers to consider contributing to either organization.
At the time of publication, the Costume Institute’s “About Time: Fashion and Duration” exhibition has been postponed until October 29. The new date for the 2020 Met Gala has yet to be confirmed.
