Machine Gun Kelly has some time on his hands during the COVID-19 lockdown, so he did what anyone would: he hopped on a freestyle over Jack Harlow’s “What’s Poppin'” beat.
With a co-sign from Harlow at the beginning of the video for the surprise track, MGK digs into the piano-laden beat with a twisty food, sex and rhyming skills assault that drops props to his hometown Cleveland Cavs, as well as Chef Nobu, McDonald’s, Jeffrey Dahmer, Cinderella and Coogi coats.
“What’s poppin’? Just f—ed my ex, I rawed it/ Two X in the mushroom chocolate/ Two X on neck, I’m frostbit/ Stay dressin’, no balsamic/ Got commas Comme des Garcon’d it/ Cup got ice cubes like Compton/ Chef Nobu, cook me raw fish,” MGK rhymes in the visual while reading the lines off his phone.
For the record, he doesn’t care about critics that are mad he switched genres, he’s “been sick, no virus” and slips in a very nasty reference to Drake’s new single, “Toosie Slide.” Richie Colson hasn’t been sitting idle during quarantine, dropping the track “Smoke and Drive” from inside his car on April 1, as well as a series of covers of everyone from Nirvana to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Paramore, Juice WRLD and a collab with Yungblud on Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova.”
