The show will take place on Sunday (April 26) at 4:00 p.m. EST.
The 50th celebration of Earth Day isn’t over yet. A group of rock stars will (virtually) get together on Sunday (April 26) to give Mother Earth one more squeeze when they take part in Pathway to Paris Earth Day 50: A Virtual Festival for Our Planet on Instagram Live. The virtual livestream festival will take place at 4:00 p.m. EST.
The event is slated to feature Michael Stipe, Patti Smith, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Tony Hawk, Ben Harper, Cat Power, Particle Kid, Rain Phoenix, Nikolai Fraiture of The Strokes, Tenzin Cheogyal, Patrick Watson and Jesse Paris Smith & Rebecca Foon and more.
“As humanity faces an unknown future, we must recognize the fact that we simply cannot go back to our behavior from before. Both as individuals and as a globe, we are in a time of reflection, and now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to make great change,” reads a statement from Pathway to Paris, a nonprofit founded in 2014 by punk godmother Smith’s daughter, and brings together artists, activists, musicians, academics and others to work on innovative solutions to combat global climate change.
“Climate change is a global concern, and we have seen with Covid-19 what can happen when the world truly works together to come up with solutions in a time of crisis,” the announcement for the event continues. “Let’s treat the climate situation with that same urgency and passion. Let’s not go back to the world as it was. Instead, let’s move into the future with a renewed vision of how we want to live. Let’s do this not only for our children and future generations, but for each other, here today. For our neighbors, friends, and family, for the animals and trees, for every living being and species on this Earth. “
