“This is the demo track," Stipe wrote on YouTube.
Michael Stipe is sending his love to all those in self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.
On Saturday (March 28), the former R.E.M. singer unveiled the demo of his new song “No Time for Love Like Now,” a collaboration with The National’s Aaron Dessner.
“First take!” Stipe captioned a video of himself singing the new track on YouTube. “This is the demo track.”
Dessner shared his excitement about working with Stipe on social media.
“Michael Stipe has been a great hero and friend to me (and @TheNational) and I never in my wildest dreams imagined writing songs together… but here is the demo of one in progress… coming to you from Michael in isolation at home — hope it raises some spirits,” The National singer tweeted.
“No Time for Love Like Now” is one of several solo songs Stipe has shared in recent months. The new song follows previously released tracks “Your Capricious Soul” and “Drive to the Ocean.”
R.E.M.’s music has made a resurgence on the charts during the coronavirus contrast. Earlier this month, the rock band’s 1987 classic “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” re-entered LyricFind’s U.S. ranking at No. 4.
