UPDATE: In latest development around the new Mobb Deep project, the official music video for ‘Down For You’ is out now, and features a blend of creative and performative storytelling. While on the left side of the frame (for the most part) a story unfolds and tears are collected (quite literally), the other side sports the artists spitting their verses.
Every now and then, the boundaries break, and the two worlds collide by way of transitions. The end, with rotoscope cutouts of the face is especially poetic. But what is it truly? Best for you to see for yourself, considering it seems to be a bit of emotional surprise — maybe even the perfect tribute to Prodigy. Check out the video below!

PREVIOUS STORY:
Mass Appeal is out here pushing the very best of culture, as is clear with the way the new Mobb Deep project is rolling out. Not to mention other projects (like those by Ghostface, Slick Rick and more) that have come out before this as part of the Legend Has It… series. In every way ‘Down For You‘ sets the tone for the reception of the legendary duo’s ninth album, Infinite.
The beat is syncopated and draggy, dusty boom bap rhythms with a splash of R&B. Jorja Smith’s vocals meet reverb and pan in the best way to add lushness to a track that is as sensual as it is hard hitting and gritty. Nas’ raps shine through, too, in a manner that is both reminiscent of old school hip hop, coupled with the vitality of new school soul.
The project as a whole is a celebration of Havoc and Prodigy’s impact and legacy, and for ‘Down For You’ to have a Nas feature was a welcome tipping of the hat. Check out the song below to see if it lives up to the hype!
