Today, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. NYC is anticipating a Phase 4 opening on Labor Day. The VMA’s is slated for Aug. 30th, a week before the holiday weekend.
“This year’s screen breaking spectacle will bring together music fans worldwide and pay homage to the strength, spirit and incredible resilience of NYC and its beloved residents,” MTV stated. This will be the network’s 36th year, and 7 years since the last time Barclays hosted the iconic award show. Various performances are slated to take place in an array of iconic locations from Brooklyn, to Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan.

Despite many award shows postponing or hosting digitally, the producers of the VMA’s worked closely with both local and state officials to make sure they adhere to safety precautions and social distancing practices – meaning limited capacity, or no audience.
