As the music community continues to mourn the loss of John Prine, who passed away on April 7 following his battle with the coronavirus, countless acts are sharing their tributes to the singer.
Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines honored the late singer-songwriter with a stirring cover of “Angel From Montgomery” with the help of her children.
In a four-minute clip, Maines sang the song alongside her two sons, Jack and Beckett. While Maines took lead on acoustic guitar, her sons stood beside her and accompanied on guitar and mandolin.
“My kids got introduced to John Prine tonight and helped me do a tribute. I❤️John Prine. R.I.P.” she captioned the video.
“Angel From Montgomery” is one of Prine’s more famous songs. It was featured on his self-titled 1971 debut album and recorded by several artists including Carly Simon, Bonnie Raitt, and John Denver, among others.
Prine had countless artists cover his tunes, including Johnny Cash (“Sam Stone”), Bette Midler (“Hello in There”), Zac Brown Band (“All the Best”), Miranda Lambert (“That’s the Way the World Goes Round”) and George Strait (“I Just Want to Dance with You”).
