Nick Cannon is channeling his frustration over George Floyd’s death through a powerful spoken word video.
On Sunday (May 31), as protests broke out across the U.S. following the killing of the unarmed black man at the hands of a white Minneapolis police officer, Cannon shared an intense black-and-white video featuring a strong message over recent footage of himself protesting in Minneapolis and other raw images of police brutality.
“I Can’t Breathe… Again!” Cannon, who wears a black hoodie featuring the words “Everything Hurts,” states at the start of the three-and-a-half minute clip. “Our voices haves been quarantined, Covid-19.”
Cannon joins a long list of celebrities speaking out after Floyd’s death, including Beyonce, Rihanna, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande and Chance the Rapper. Last week, a video of Floyd’s death surfaced showing Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes. Chauvin was later charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Floyd.
At several points in his hard-hitting video, the Masked Singer host is seen face down on the pavement uttering the words “I can’t breathe” while re-imagining the deaths of Floyd and Eric Gardner, another black man who was suffocated by police during an arrest in 2014.
“Hands up don’t shoot, but now you’re knees on my neck stopping me, from occupying oxygen that God obviously brought for me, for I am his offspring, his true seed, muthaf—a get off of me!!! Please!! I cant breathe!!! Please somebody call the police on the police!! Cuz I can’t breathe ….Again!” Cannon pleas in the video.
