Old Dominion are offering fans new music with the reveal of several unreleased tracks that never made it onto their three albums. Over the past several weeks, the country act has shared some older songs on Instagram and explain why they didn’t make the final cut.
On Friday (April 10), the band posted a snippet of a heart-wrenching breakup ballad called “Goes Without Sayin’.” Frontman Matthew Ramsey’s vocals are emotive as he sings of no longer being able to say I love you to his girl. “How could it just disappear/ I don’t know how we got here/ Broke without breaking/ Drunk without drinking/ They don’t tell you when your time is up/ I guess sometimes love goes without saying/ Goes without saying goodbye,” he croons on the song’s chorus alongside soaring electric guitar.
“Time for another unheard OD song. This is an oldie. We recorded this when we were making our independent EP that ultimately turned into Meat and Candy,” the band captions the song on Instagram. “In the end we just felt like it didn’t fit the project. Check it out ‘Goes Without Sayin’.”
Previously, Old Dominion shared another song called “I’m on It.” Another heartbreak ballad, “I’m on It” was slotted to also appear on their debut album Meat and Candy. “The album was done but at the last minute we wrote a song called ‘Song for Another Time’ and had to cut a song to make room for the new one. So it was out with ‘I’m on it’ and in with ‘Song for Another Time.’” In 2016, “Song for Another Time” went on to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
The band also revealed a snippet for a song called “Dancing Forever.” A track Ramsey and Trevor Rosen wrote for their daughters with Ross Copperman and Shane McAnally, “Dancing Forever” never made the cut for their sophomore album Happy Endings, but saw some life when Michael Ray recorded it for his 2018 project Amos.
