Kavon Grant, widely known as OTF Vonnie, has taken the stand in Lil Durk‘s high-profile murder-for-hire trial. Over the course of two days, Grant provided testimony alleging that the rapper was an active participant in a targeted hit on Quando Rondo, while also implicating other prominent figures in the industry, including YoungBoy Never Broke Again and 6ix9ine.
Testimony Details and Allegations
On Monday, August 31, Grant appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom, testifying as part of a plea agreement intended to secure a more lenient sentence. Prosecutors contend that Grant played a pivotal role in the logistics of the 2022 shooting. Conversely, the defense team for Lil Durk has characterized Grant as the true mastermind, arguing that he is attempting to shift culpability onto the rapper to mitigate his own legal exposure.
According to reports from inside the courtroom, Grant identified the intended target of the 2022 shooting as Quando Rondo. He further alleged that the co-conspirators involved in the plot included Deandre “DeDe” Wilson and David Brian “Browneyez” Lindsey. Grant described his former role as an assistant to Lil Durk, admitting to involvement in various illicit activities, including the brokering of stolen high-end vehicles.
The 2022 Shooting and Escalating Tensions
The 2022 incident, which resulted in the death of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was described by Grant as a calculated effort. He testified that the group intentionally booked flights to San Diego rather than Los Angeles to evade law enforcement. Furthermore, Grant claimed that Lil Durk was increasingly agitated by public comments made by 6ix9ine, which he felt added significant pressure to the situation.
During the proceedings, evidence was presented in the form of text messages from an OTF group chat. One message from Lil Durk read, “If the shoe was on the other foot it would be no pressed. Im’a be hard on y’all cause I love y’all. Von is me, Von is y’all.” Another exchange referenced YoungBoy Never Broke Again, with Durk expressing frustration regarding the perceived lack of caution shown by his rivals.
Cross-Examination and Credibility
The defense, led by attorney Drew Findling, aggressively challenged Grant’s credibility. Findling portrayed the witness as a prolific scammer who enjoyed a lavish lifestyle while employed by the rapper. The defense also highlighted a recorded jail call in which Grant expressed his intention to be on his “A game” during testimony to avoid a life sentence.
Grant admitted to lying to Lil Durk regarding the disposal of a vehicle used in the shooting, stating, “I thought burning it was stupid honestly.” He also testified that he and the rapper watched footage of the aftermath of the shooting, claiming that Lil Durk appeared joyful upon seeing the results. As the investigation intensified, Grant eventually distanced himself from the rapper, moving back to Atlanta before being fired in early 2023.
