Pete Davidson was still engaged to Ariana Grande when Mac Miller died in 2018 after an accidental overdose of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol. In a new interview with Charlamagne Tha God published on Monday (Feb. 24), Davidson opened up about how the tragedy affected his then-fiancée.
“I totally got it,” Davidson said when asked about Ari's public grieving. “She would even tell you this. I was like, ‘Listen, I get it, do whatever you’ve got to do, I’ll be here.’ I think I said, ‘I’ll be here until you don’t want me to be here.'”
“I pretty much knew it was around over after that,” he continued. “That was really horrible, and I can’t imagine what that s— is like. All I do know is that she really loved the s— out of him, and she wasn’t putting on a show or anything. That was f—ed up. Prayers to his family and all of his friends.”
The pop star and Swimming rapper confirmed they parted ways after a two year relationship in May 2018. Davidson and Grande began dating at the end of that month, and were engaged in June. In October, a month after Miller's death, Grande and the SNL comedian called it quits.
