This past weekend, rapper Cardi B nearly got caught up in a physical altercation while out shopping. In a video posted by the Jasmine BRAND, Cardi B can be seen in what is reported to be a Louis Vuitton store. The 25-year old rapper was surrounded by security guards and police officers as a small crowd formed outside of the store’s doors. The footage starts in the middle of a heated exchange of words between Cardi B and a woman outside of the store.
Although not much of their exchange can be heard over the clamor of the crowd, the woman’s voice can be heard at one point, saying, “if I heard you say it, I would have respected it”. Cardi B looks visibly agitated as she argues with the woman outside, who is being held back by others as she argues with Cardi. As Cardi B walks away from the door and into the store, a voice can be heard saying, “come outside, you b***h”.
A likely cause of the intense situation could have been that the other shoppers were either kicked out of the store or prevented from entering so that Cardi B could shop alone. The fact that Cardi B is both rich and famous makes her a highly valuable customer for expensive brands that market their products as status symbols. Louis Vuitton products are already exclusive, so it would not be surprising for the management of one of their stores to restrict public access for the time that Cardi B is shopping.
If this is what actually happened, it would be understandable for other potential customers to be upset by this. It would also provide an explanation for the comment that can be heard in the video. It’s possible that Cardi B had her security or the store’s management kick the other shoppers out of the store, rather than individually asking others to leave. This may have rubbed some of those shoppers the wrong way, as they might have interpreted Cardi’s decision as a false sense of entitlement. Regardless, actual details of the encounter have not been spoken on by Cardi B or her camp, so they remain up for speculation.
The last thing Cardi B needs is more beef. Back in early April, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper formally announced her pregnancy during her musical performance on Saturday Night Live. The bump she displayed on the show was already quite developed, as pregnancy rumors had been flying around weeks before her announcement. The bump seems a little larger in the video of her at the Louis store, so a physical fight would be a very unfortunate occurrence.
Azealia Banks Throws Shade
Even though Cardi has stayed out of harm’s way in the physical, she was recently targeted by fellow rapper Azealia Banks when Banks visited Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club last Friday. Along with calling her an “illiterate, untalented rat” and a “caricature of a black woman”, Banks had this to say about Cardi B:
Two years ago, the conversation surrounding black women’s culture was really reaching an all-time high. There was just this really, really, really intelligent conversation going on nationally and then everything just kind of changed, and then it was like, Cardi B… I’m just talking about this caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with. Like, if my spelling and grammar was that bad, I’d be canceled. If Nicki Minaj spelled like that, we would be ragging on her all day.

Cardi B quickly responded to Azealia’s comments on Instagram by both commenting on a clip of the interview on Instagram and creating her own Instagram post explaining how she feels. Shortly after doing so, Cardi sent her fans into a frenzy by deactivating her Instagram account altogether. Check out her comment and deleted posts above.
This isn’t the first friction seen between the two female MCs. Back in September, Azealia Banks lashed out at Cardi B in a Twitter rant, calling her a “poor man’s nicki”. Cardi B responded by posting a video to her Twitter of Azealia Banks enthusiastically singing along to “Bodak Yellow” in the club, with the caption “One of the reasons Bodak Yellow went #1! Cuz even the HATERS love it!” Interestingly enough, Azealia Banks had heaped praise on Cardi B back in late 2017 in an interview she did with XXL. Along with saying that Cardi should have been a 2017 XXL Freshman, Banks said the following about Cardi:
I really, really like Cardi B. I followed Cardi B on Instagram before she started rapping and I was like, Oh my God, this girl just reminds me of all the girls I went to middle school with, all the girls I grew up on the block with, all the Dominican babysitters. I grew up with girls just like Cardi B. So I always thought she was funny, and when she started rapping, I was like… what is she doing? Then I heard “Foreva” and I was like, Okay, this is really fucking good, she’s not playing. Then I heard a couple other songs and I was like, Oh shit, Cardi’s not playing! And now I’m a fan of Cardi B’s music and her personality.
