Princess Nokia turned her colorful bedroom into a Billboard Live At-Home venue Thursday (May 7) to raise money for Housing Works Inc., which combats the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS.
Her green and purple sun and moon tapestry complemented the green cartoon pillows and toys decorating her purple camouflage bedspread as part of Princess Nokia’s intimate setting. She dedicated the 15-minute set to Everything Sucks, her third album that she released in February, by performing “Welcome to the Circus,” “I Like Him,” “Fee Fi Foe,” “Balenciaga” and “Gross.”
After spitting rapid-fire bars for her mini-concert, the 27-year-old rapper voiced her support for Housing Works, an organization near and dear to her heart. “I want to shout out to all the essential union workers at Housing Works that are fighting for their rights,” she said. “I just want to thank you guys for your relentless, selfless work to everybody at Housing Works who has done incredible work organizing on the ground, working with the people that it provides services for. I am so grateful.”
She continued: “I know that a few people that I know in my life have benefited a lot from Housing Works, so I am just so appreciative that space has been such a big part of the community. Let’s continue to help people with HIV, HIV survivors from children to adult. This has been going on for a long time. I’m a big supporter of the destigmatization movement.”
