Queen's Brian May Tears Butt Muscle While Gardening

This is not a Spinal Tap joke.

First the good news: Queen‘s Brian May does not have COVID-19. He was, however, recently hospitalized with a bizarre injury that sounds like a joke out of the Spinal Tap files. The legendary guitarist/astrophysicist showed up on Instagram on Wednesday in a selfie in which he’s wearing a blue hospital mask along with a video in which he’s rolling through a hospital corridor.

What landed him there? We’ll let him tell you. “Reality check ! For me. No – the Virus didn’t get me yet – thank God. Hope you’re all keeping extra-safe out there,” he wrote. “A decision to relax controls doesn’t suddenly make the danger go away. But me ?? Yes, I’ve been quiet. Reason ? As well as getting over-stretched and harassed by too many demands … I managed to rip my Gluteus Maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening.”

You heard that right, May tore his butt muscles while gardening.

“So suddenly I find myself in a hospital getting scanned to find out exactly how much I’ve actually damaged myself,” said the 72 year-old “Fat Bottomed Girls” shredder. “Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while … or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless. So, folks … I need to go dark for a while, getting some complete rest, at home. Please, please don’t send me sympathy – I just need some healing silence for a while.”

May promised that he’d be back soon after he takes a “complete break” to recover. In the meantime, Queen and Adam Lambert recently delivered a new version of their titanic hit “We Are The Champions” to benefit the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the WHO supporting frontline workers.
