Travis Scott was apparently unaware of the deadly situation unfolding at Astroworld, even after he left the festival.
TMZ reports that the rapper went to Dave & Buster’s for an after-party, but was never told that fans had died in the crowd and hundreds more were injured at his festival.
“Travis didn’t know the severity of the situation when he arrived at the party, as far as timing, this remains consistent with the fact that no one including the police had publicly confirmed the gravity of the events that had taken place,” says a source.
Drake, who performed as a surprise guest during Travis’ set, reportedly hosted the after-party. However, he also “didn’t have a clue” about what was going on, says the source.
When Travis was informed at Dave & Buster’s about the tragedy, he immediately left the party.
In a video posted Saturday, Travis said he was unaware of the severity of the situation while on stage. “Any time I could make out, you know, anything that’s going on, you know, I just stop my show and, you know, helped them get the help they need. I could just never imagine the severity of the situation.â€
He has vowed to cover funeral costs for the eight people who died at the festival and is offering mental health services to anyone who may have been affected.
Travis, along with Live Nation, are facing several lawsuits, including one from the family of a 9-year-old boy who was “trampled” during the stampede and remains in a medically-induced coma.
On Monday, Drake broke his silence in a statement. “My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering,” he said. “I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can. May God be with you all.”
