Rosalia's 'Dolerme': Listen

Rosalía has surprise-released a song today (March 24), and it’s a stark departure from her previous material.

“Dolerme” is a heartbreaking ballad that begins with the strumming of pop-style guitar. The track, built on that guitar and keyboard loops, is distinctly pop as well, though Rosalía applies her flamenco tendencies.

The lyrics to “Dolerme,” which means “hurts me” or “it is painful,” describe a person who is deeply depressed after being disappointed with the end of a relationship (Por todas esas veces que me puse detrás y yo cambié lo mío por lo que tú querías (for all those times I put myself behind and I changed my things for what you wanted),” as the opening line says.

Musically, it’s a new direction for the singer. But Rosalía has proven herself to be a chameleon before, navigating from flamenco to reggaetón without losing her essence.

“Dolerme” was released alongside a lyric video which features a drawing of a sad-faced woman lying on a bed next to a knife and a cat.
