Saban Music Group announced today (June 23) an exclusive, global administration agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group.
According to a statement, the deal further strengthens the partnership between Universal and SMG, founded in 2019 by Haim Saban, chairman and CEO of Saban Capital Group LLC and spearheaded by CEO Latin music industry veteran Gustavo Lopez.
“I am thrilled about this new venture. Innovation requires collaboration, and this partnership amplifies our chances for success on a global scale,” Saban said about the announcement.
Added Jody Gerson, chairman and CEO of UMPG:”We are excited to be partnering with Haim Saban and Gustavo Lopez and Saban Music to create opportunities for their artists and songwriters. I am confident that we will have outstanding success together.”
Earlier this year, SMG announced a global distribution and marketing agreement with Universal. Under the new global distribution and marketing agreement, the Los Angeles-based SMG will be distributed in the U.S. by Caroline, an arm of UMG subsidiary Capitol Music Group.
For all other territories, SMG will work in tandem with Caroline International’s 11 offices outside the U.S., and UMG’s central services team, based in Santa Monica, Calif.
Through its 360 model, SMG’s operations span recorded music, publishing, touring, management, and acquisitions for both local and international artists. Their roster features artists like Static & Ben El (Israel), Chesca (Puerto Rico), and Reykon (Colombia), among others.
