Sam Hunt remembers being “Young Once” in his latest music video, released Thursday (April 16), which features a teen couple running away together.
Their perilous escape from their parents and dull lives delivers the very thrill the boy and girl have been searching for. Tim Mattia directed the four-minute cinematic clip that breathes life into Hunt’s whimsical lyrics, from “Backroads in the wild, on the run once/ Cheap thrills, doing things in the wheat fields” to “She said, “Let’s get a cheap hotel/ And make out in the hall.”
Regardless of their penniless routines, the young couple never lose their sparkle, as narrated in the nostalgic record that unites naive hope and true grit. “Young Once” is on the 35-year-old singer’s sophomore album, Southside (intentionally the same name as the motel they stay at), which debuts atop Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart this week (chart dated April 18).
