Selena Becomes First Latina To Receive Star At Rodeo Houston

Selena Quintanilla has been officially inducted into the Star Trail of Fame at the Rodeo Houston, making history as the first Latina artist and second female act overall, Billboard has learned.

The announcement was made on Sunday (March 8) a set of photos and videos posted on the Rodeo’s Instagram account, showing the unveiling of the golden plaque positioned next to Elvis Presley’s. Suzette and A.B. Quintanilla, Selena’s siblings, were in attendance.

On February 26, the Quintanilla family and fans honored 25 years since Selena & Los Dinos took the stage for the last time at the Houston Astrodome in the Rodeo. The Queen of Tejano performed three years in a row (1993-1995), ultimately breaking her own record with the 1995 televised spectacle that drew nearly 67,000 attendees.

Selena became the ninth person inducted into the Star Trail of Fame, joining other icons such as Reba McEntire, Brooks and Dunny, and others. The unveiling not only took place on International Women’s Day but also on Go Tejano Day at Rodeo Houston, recognizing the Hispanic culture within Texas’ heritage.
