The NBA is sure to be debating numerous ways to honor the life of Kobe Bryant in some capacity this season. One major change some have in mind is switching the NBA's longtime logo from Jerry West to a silhouette of the Black Mamba.
A viral petition currently has almost 2 million signatures and has attracted the attention of many celebrities. Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Usher, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz and more have all shown support for backing the movement. "Couldn’t be a better time or all-around athlete and person for it. #changethelogo," Usher proclaimed on Instagram.
Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others were killed in the fatal helicopter accident on Sunday morning (Jan. 26), as they were headed to the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, Calif. for Gianna's team's basketball game.
NBA teams have paid tribute to Kobe by taking 24-second shot clock and 8-second back-court violations to start games, an ode to the numbers he wore during his prolific 20-year career. The league also decided to cancel Tuesday night's (Jan. 28) Lakers and Clippers duel at Staples Center.
